Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Our Gang is a dedicated youth support group founded in the 1970s by the late Arletha Pugh, aimed at combating the influence of violent gangs in North Philadelphia. Together with her sister, the late Shirley Hooks, they initiated a movement focused on uniting young people through positivity and personal growth. Over the past four decades, Our Gang has fostered meaningful relationships and provided invaluable support to the youth in the community. We continue to inspire and empower the next generation to thrive and make positive choices.

Meet The Founders

Arletha Pugh

Born on September 27th 1949 in North Carolina. Arletha was always a strong and confident young person. She moved to Philadelphia at a young age and upon reaching adulthood ,quickly became a pillar of her North Philadelphia community. Raising young children of her own she was dissatisfied with the resources and opportunities for younger children in the neighborhood both after school ,and during the summer months when idle time could lead to bad decisions and so OURGANG was formed.

Pastor Shirley Hooks

Pastor Hooks was born November 6th 1952. If asked she would describe herself as the "SHY" sister but one would be hard pressed to find a stronger pair. Alongside her sister Arletha, Pastor Hooks decided it was time to create an environment where the youth could be loved by a Village and experience what the world had to offer without the threat of violence.
